Hi, I'm Megan.
I am a social media specialist at NC State University with a love of details, witty copy, and marketing strategy. I am thoughtful in my actions and humble in my reactions. I believe in the power of passionate people, stories told well, and quality over quantity. As a lifelong learner, I am always acquiring new skills and knowledge in a quest to better understand the world around me — and my place within it.
My Experience
Social Media Specialist | North Carolina State University
March 2017 – present
As a member of the Social Media Strategy Hub, I develop and execute marketing strategies to raise brand awareness, generate leads and increase engagement for the NC State Alumni Association and the Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign. I received the UComm Employee Recognition Award for leading the social media strategy for NC State Red and White Week 2017, the university's celebration of homecoming. In addition to event-based strategies, I also developed channel strategies for each social media platform, outlining goals, KPIs, target audiences, content series and more.
Website Management Intern | Pack for a Purpose
January 2015 – May 2017
As an intern at this global nonprofit organization, I assembled the newsletter using VerticalResponse, wrote updates for the media and posted content on the website using WordPress. I also created collages using Photoshop and aggregated data for more than 470 participants around the world. I assisted in redesigning the Pack for a Purpose website by creating wireframes to be sent to the Board for approval, and I wrote how-to guides to be used by future interns as we transitioned from Drupal CMS to WordPress.
Digital Media Intern | United States Olympic Committee
June 2016 – September 2016
I helped keep TeamUSA.org up-to-date leading up to and during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, working with the social media team to drive more than 7 million visitors to the website. Using Sitecore, I formatted stories, updated athlete bios, created image galleries and managed the Rio 2016 microsite. I created daily photo listicles during the Games, which attracted more than 230K page views.
Managing Editor | Technician, student newspaper
April 2015 – April 2016
I earned my position as managing editor after three years working at the Technician. I managed the production of NC State's student newspaper for Monday–Thursday publication. This included working with a staff of more than 70 students, recruiting staff, training writers, editing content and reporting stories. During my time as managing editor, the Technician won fifth place in the national Best of Show competition at the 2015 Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Association conference.
