experience

NC State University

Social Media Specialist May 2017 – present

As a social media specialist, I develop and execute social media strategies to raise brand awareness and generate leads for the NC State Alumni Association and Campaign NC State. Strategies pertain to event coverage, user-generated content campaigns, contests and more. I track and report on the success of these strategies using data from Hootsuite, Brandwatch and Google Analytics. I also occasionally write stories for the web and create graphics using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.

Pack for a Purpose nonprofit organization

Website Management Intern January 2015 – present

As an intern at Pack for a Purpose, I assemble the newsletter, write updates for the media and post content on the website using WordPress. I also edit blog posts, create collages using Photoshop and aggregate data for more than 470 global participants. I assisted in redesigning the Pack for a Purpose website by creating wireframes to be sent to the Board for approval, and I wrote how-to guides to be used by future interns as we transitioned from Drupal to WordPress.

United States Olympic Committee

Digital Media Intern June 2016 – September 2016

As a digital media intern, I helped keep TeamUSA.org up-to-date leading up to and during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, driving more than 7 million unique visitors to the site during the Games alone. Using Sitecore, I uploaded stories, updated athlete bios, managed the Rio 2016 microsite, and created daily photo listicles. I assisted in live-streaming the Paralympic Games on the website and clipped video snippets for YouTube and social media using SnappyTV.

Technician NC State’s student newspaper

Managing Editor April 2015 – April 2016

I managed the production of the Technician, NC State's student newspaper, for Monday – Thursday publication. This included working with a staff of more than 70 students, training writers, editing content, using InDesign and writing stories. I worked with the editor-in-chief and our senior staff members to make editorial decisions regarding story hierarchy, photo choice and assignments.

Copy Desk Manager May 2014 – April 2015

As Copy Desk Manager of the Technician, I copy edited content from each section for AP Style, content and clarity. Because this was a new position, it was important that I establish the function and necessity of this role. I implemented a new editing system that required copy editors to fact-check each story while also maintaining efficiency. I updated the Technician Style Guide and created one-page guides to explain the rule changes. I held biweekly meetings to train my staff of 14 copy editors.

Opinion Editor September 2013 – April 2014

As Opinion Editor for the Technician, I coordinated content for the Opinion page for our Monday – Friday print publication. I wrote more than 50 columns/staff editorials. I managed a staff of 16 columnists and four cartoonists, and I gained leadership skills as I conducted weekly meetings in which we discussed ideas for the section. I edited columns for AP Style and clarity, and I met with columnists one-on-one to improve their quality of writing. I created the “Point/Counterpoint” monthly feature to highlight differing opinions within the section.
